Dark Skies over Twenty Trees

Twenty Trees is a small, landmark copse of trees above the village of Hayfield. As well as being the scene of the 1932 Mass Trespass, Hayfield was also the setting for an earlier victory for land access, when campaigners secured the Snake Path from closure, a campaign led by Richard Pankhurst, husband of the suffragette Emmeline. The trees stand alongside the Snake Path and pose walkers with a baffling mystery – how many trees actually are there?
