Santa Clara is the scene of Che Guevara’s crucial victory in the Cuban Revolution, a colourful, sleepy working town with pleasant squares and now the mausoleum housing Che’s remains. The old man sitting smoking seemed to reflect the gentle run down feeling of the street, sitting in the hot sun on the pavement, a scene tinged by sadness – his house is for sale and he’s wearing odd shoes.
